Founded in 1994 by Robert Gehrsitz and Pat DeGroodt, Digital Wave is most widely recognized for bringing Pilot Chart based passage planning to the PC in the product Visual Passage Planner (VPP).

The original idea behind VPP was to develop an automated way for Pat and his wife Colleen to plan various routes around the globe for their planned circumnavigation (which, by the way, they began in August of 1998).  Pat has since left the company due to his 'round the world trip, although he is still a consultant to Digital Wave.  You can keep track of the DeGroodt's voyage around the world directly from this web site, just follow this link.

Today, the company continues to evolve the VPP product, but also provides custom software solutions for a variety of other industries.  Our customers span every facet of the marine industry, from national naval forces and commercial shipping, to amateur cruisers and armchair sailors.
