Visual Passage Planner 2 Featured in Zeilen Magazine
Visual Passage Planner 2 (VPP2) was
the main featured product in a 10 page article on Route Planning.  Thanks to the author of the article, here is a translated excerpt from the original Dutch.
"Visual Passage Planner uses the same statistical data that forms the basis of traditional pilot charts. Just like the printed version information about wind and current is shown for a given month. Translating that information into an ideal route however forms a real brainteaser. But not so for a computer.
In Visual Passage Planner you just click on the point of departure, the destination and possible intermediate waypoints and you choose the month of the trip. Next the software calculates the effects for the entire route. All wind and current information is taken into account and the result is presented in conveniently arranged tables.
After entering the type of boat and its predicted performance the program can generate even more output. For instance the expected duration of the trip, the average wind angles but also the estimated fuel consumption. Really impressive is the possibility in which the software shows the optimal route between two waypoints. In some cases that resulted in surprisingly new views.

Visual Passage Planner costs significantly less than a complete set of Pilot Atlases for the entire world. But even if that wasn’t the case, we would gladly turn in our pile of paper for the CD-Rom."

Visual Passage Planner 2 Receives Positive Press in Yachting Monthly Magazine
Visual Passage Planner 2 (VPP2)
was just reviewed by the U.K.'s Yachting Monthly Magazine.  To quote from the article, "Its (VPPs) latest incarnation, Version 2, has a worldwide library of pilot charts and information on over 4,600 ports, cunningly interfaced with a route planning programme that tells you everything about your proposed voyage at the click of a mouse".  The article goes on to say, "Visual Passage Planner is a powerful passage planning tool that deserves a place in every navigator's laptop".  The complete review will be published in the next issue of Yachting Monthly.

Visual Passage Planner 2.0 Reviewed by Ocean Navigator
Visual Passage Planner 2.0 (VPP2)
was just reviewed by Ocean Navigator for inclusion in the next edition of their email newsletter.  Here are some quotes from the article: "Version 1 of this program came out in the early 90s, and was a good effort. I’m testing the just released Version 2, and it’s a vast improvement. For instance, you can now switch the data graphic views from the 5-degree blocks that could be fit on the paper charts to the 1-degree blocks possible in the original data. You can also change the standard Mercator chart projection to a more realistic spherical view, and spin the image like a globe.  Unlike a globe, you can switch weather data, and other layers like port and country names, on and off. And when you zoom in, you’ll find a fair amount of detail on the upgraded 1:1,000,000 vector chart. You can also lay out a route, and have VPP report on the wind and wave conditions you can expect to find along it. If you build a simple “Vessel Speed Profile” (much like a polar diagram), the program will estimate leg speeds, or even try to optimize the route."
