SIMMER'S BLUE WATER VOYAGE

10-07-02  We're back in the Hog Island anchorage on the southern tip of Grenada.  Colleen flies to Philadelphia, USA tomorrow to visit family for a couple weeks.  Pat's Mom is having major surgery on Oct 10th, so Colleen planned the visit to be there for her operation and recovery.  We anticipate no complications and a speedy recovery.  In the meantime, Pat will stay in Grenada with the boat.  We decided Colleen is the better care-giver and Pat is the better boat-sitter, especially during hurricane season.  So off she flies for her 4th trip back to the States in 4 years.  (Incidentally flying home once a year was part of the plan when we decided to do our circumnavigation).  Pat will have company for one of the weeks while Colleen is away.  Our friend, Max, is flying in from Florida for a visit from Oct 16-23.

10-16-02 Busy day for Pat the bachelor today.  Mike Hromoko, Alan Schnabolk, and their wives (friends from work at Ft. Monmouth) were on a cruise through the Caribbean and stopped at St. George, Grenada this afternoon.  It was good to see friends from home and we caught up a bit over a few Carib beers downtown.   Then another friend, Max (Chris) Pilsbury flew in to spend a week aboard visiting and seeing the sites of Grenada.

10-24-02   Max left this morning at 0430 (yes that's AM!).  We had a good week of weather, just enough overcast days to sleep off the hangovers and enough sun to do some sailing and diving around the island.  We even managed to find a couple of lobsters on the reef off Hog Island to have for dinner one night.  Most of today was spend cleaning and doing laundry in preparation for Colleen's return.  She was to fly in tomorrow but extended the trip  a few days because of Pat's Mom.  She should be back on Saturday so a few extra days to prep the boat.

10-31-02    Pat's Mom's surgery went well, a few complications the week after her surgery, but she is improving now.  Colleen had a great visit with family and is back onboard and ready to start slowly heading through the islands.   Hurricane season is just about over and it's safe to venture northwards, but a November storm can still surprise you so we'll move slowly at first.  We plan to leave Grenada tomorrow and sail up to Carriacou (part of Grenada in the Grenadine Island chain).  Then a few other Grenadines Islands and onto St. Lucia.  Can't believe we've been in Grenada almost 3 months now.  We certainly enjoyed our stay, but it's time to see some new places and faces.  We'll be island-hopping from here all the way up to the Bahamas over the next 4-5 months.  P.S.  Happy Halloween - a few children in the anchorage dressed in costumes and dinghied around to collect candy from all the boats.   As you can guess, there were quite a few pirate costumes!
