SIMMER'S BLUE WATER VOYAGE |

An Aussie icon - the Sydney Opera House as seen from the harbor bridge (the bridge is nicknamed "the coathanger"). We learned of an infamous DeGroot in the Sydney Harbor Bridge Museum. Not sure if he's a distant relative (our name is spelled DeGroodt). Capt. Frances DeGroot of the "New Guard", a rebel organization opposed to the government, rushed past the governor-general to cut the bridge-opening ribbon "... on behalf of the decent people of New South Wales ...", thereby riding into Australian folklore. This is a picture of a newspaper article from the time of the opening. << No Previous Picture Photo Page Next Picture
